GW Micro - Training

Often people who are blind receive computer systems, which is great, but the real problem is in learning to use these systems. A person with sight has all kinds of manuals and reference material at hand to use. However, most of the time these materials are not accessible for those of us who are blind. This presents a real problem, and many times the computer system ends up not being used at all or not used anywhere near its full capacity. We have found this to be a widespread problem throughout the adaptive technology industry.

GW Micro is pleased to announce Window-Eyes Training in various locations around the United States and Canada. We are providing instruction in basic and intermediate skills in a 2 day format; trainees can take one or both days. This training will provide you with the foundation needed to use your computer with confidence.

Window-Eyes Training Policies

  • We will offer training classes in Fort Wayne, IN as well as other locations around the U.S. (48 contiguous states) and Canada (some areas not covered - please call).
  • The training offered is a two-day training program: one day to teach Window-Eyes Basics and one day for Window-Eyes Intermediate Skills.
  • A trainee can sign up for one or both.
  • If a trainee signs up for Window-Eyes Intermediate Training only, that person must pass a test to determine if you have the basic skills needed for the intermediate class. When you register on-line for the intermediate class only, you will be presented with an on-line test. You must have a score of 85 to be prepared for the intermediate training. Your grade will be sent to you by email.
  • GW Micro staff will conduct the training.
  • If there is a Host to help with the training, the host will be encouraged to provide a training location, computers, power strips (one per person) and extension cords. If they cannot do these things, they must help locate a proper training location and provide whatever equipment they can.
  • Class size is a minimum of three and a maximum of ten. Class registration will be closed 10 days prior to the start of the class.
  • The training fee must be paid at the time of registration with a check, credit card or purchase order.
  • The training fee is $250 per day per person if you bring your own computer or if the host provides a computer. On the rare occasion that you or the host does not provide the computer, additional charges may be incurred. Persons registering after the ten day cut-off time will be charged an additional $50.00 per day of training.
  • Class hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch on your own and a morning and afternoon break. Actual training time will be six hours.
  • The software utilized during training is Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, and Office 2003. Participants who are bringing their own computer to training are encouraged to have one of these versions of Office installed on their computers. We request that the participant install Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1. While this is not a requirement for training, it is strongly recommended. Operating systems may be Windows 2000, XP Home, and XP Professional. We request that participants bring headphones.
  • The trainee will leave the training with a CD ROM for each day that contains the training outline in multiple formats as well as sample web pages.
  • The trainee will receive a certificate of completion.
  • Cancellations 30 days or more prior to the start of training will receive a full refund.
  • Cancellations between 15 and 30 days prior to the start of training will receive a 75% refund.
  • Registrants canceling less than 15 business days prior to the start date of the training will receive no refund.
  • GW Micro reserves the right to cancel any training up to 30 days prior to the start date of the training by providing written notification.
  • In the event of course cancellation, GW Micro will not be held liable for fees or penalties incurred due to changes in transportation, or other reservations made 30 days or more prior to the scheduled class.
  • We request that the participants bring headphones.
