Scripts in the planning or development stage - GWWiki

Describe your planned Scripting Projects

This page allows scripters to describe what they are currently working on, or plan to be working on in the immediate future. It is not a "wish-list". It's purpose is to allow interaction between scripters during the planning and development phases; both to avoid duplicated efforts, and to allow for cooperative work and a generally better product through discussion with others during the most crutial phase of any project. You are requested to post your planned projects in the list below. Please provide your name and a date which represents the last time you've reviewed your information for it's accuracy.

In order to edit the list, you simply choose the "edit" link from this page (if you have a wiki account), go to the edit box on the subsequent page, move to the bottom of it's text, and add your information beginning with a star, which will create a new list item. When you're done, locate and press the "save" button.

The List of Projects

  • Chip Orange: I am planning a project to give anyone with a netbook or laptop location-based reminders. The idea started off as a way to demonstrate use of the GPS shared library object. I plan to have it offer reminders which are automatically spoken if you come within a specific radius (or perhaps a specific traveling time, and using your current speed and direction to estimate if you'll come within the specifications of the reminder location). Reminders could be once (such as "buy a shovel at the hardware store"), or repeated (such as "this is your bus-stop"). They could have restrictions based on your direction, so that if you aren't traveling towards the point, you won't have an announcement.

I also have begun integrating it with Google Maps and Google Places. Right now, it uses Google Maps to allow you to enter a reminder by specifying an address (which Google will geocode into a lat/lon pair of coordinates), thus allowing you to create a reminder without having first gone to the point in order to get its location coordinates. It also is planned to offer you turn-by-turn directions (obtained from Google Maps) to a specified destination (assuming you have an internet connection). Also, along the same lines, Google Places should offer the ability to see all the businesses and other locations around a given address/location or a search using names/keywords and/or type of entity; ideally you'll be able to select your reminder point from this list without having to know its address (or directions to this place). If the integration with Google Places works well, I could also offer "check-ins" for both places and "events" shown at a specific place, which I believe naturally leads into a link with Google Latitude, which I may explore as well. (I'm finding the "check-ins" and events are specific to my ap only, and so won't be seen by other users; I'm not sure if having only Window-Eyes users benefit from this feature is enough of a user base to make it work?)

Tentative name is "Remind Me Where". (last confirmed on 9/27/2012).

  • Chip Orange: I'm interested in writing an app which would allow a hotkey to cause it to take the word under the cursor and send it to dictionary.com, which is capable of doing a lookup and returning results in XML, which the app would speak (all for free).
