Where Oh Where Has Our Little Blog Gone?
by Aaron Smith on Thursday, July 26 2007It’s been a long time since we’ve last spoken, and until Jeremy’s post last night, the GW blog well runneth dry over the past month or so. But we’re back in the swing of things, and we have some pretty good excuses for being gone so long.
Summer time, especially July, tends to be a very busy period in GW Micro land. ACB and NFB conventions both run around the same time, along with Sight Village and AHEAD. That means we spend more time out pushing our products than we do at the office, which is a good thing.
Reports coming in from the shows indicate that we did very well this year. For example, there is strong buzz in the air of our little community about the features of the Voice Sense, including the upcoming GPS support. The Braille Sense and Sense View are also both showing strong, and the simplicity of the SyncBraille is starting to catch on.
Before I start sounding too much like a sales pitch, I’ll wrap up this section by stating that Window-Eyes support for Vista is in a class all its own. We’re hearing from more and more people about the unprecedented stability and performance that Window-Eyes provides under Vista compared with any other screen reader, and the comments are always positive. That’s most excellent.
So sales trips tied up Dan, Jeremy, Clarence, Chris, and Raul this time around. What about the rest of us?
As many of you know, Doug currently works out of his office in California. We call it GW West. Although being in the heart of Silicon Valley has afforded us some great opportunities, Doug has made the decision to move back to the Fort Wayne office (GW Central). Being in the office means direct interaction with developers and support technicians rather than just Skyping in whenever a discussion is necessary. Having Doug back in the office is going to be very beneficial for everyone, including Doug. And let’s be honest: when the boss is in the office, things tend to get done a little faster. The only drawback is the whole moving process: selling a house, buying a house, packing up and moving across the country, and so on. Needless to say, Doug is going to be pretty busy over the next month.
And last, but most certainly not least, we come to me. Last month, on June 27th, my wife and I traveled to Guatemala to pick up our daughter, Zoe Maria Celeste. She’s 13 months old, about 20 lbs., and an absolute princess. We had been waiting to pick her up for about a year (we were matched with her in June of ’06), and have been working on the entire adoption process for four years. Needless to say, she is worth the wait. She is adjusting quite well, and has the whole baby routine down. Now if we can just figure out how to be parents.
I think that sufficiently blows the dust off our blog.
