It's a Bittersweet Day
by Jeremy Curry on Friday, June 15 2007As the title says, it is a bittersweet day here at GW for me. Today is the last day here at work for Leader Puppy Scout. He returns to Leader Dog tomorrow for his official guide dog training. It has been a very neat experience raising Scout and educating the public on how to interact with working dogs. I thought I knew a lot about training dogs before, and I realized that I didn't know as much as I thought I did - as is usually the case. <smile> But, my wife and I have both learned a great deal, and we are very glad to have had this experience. When I first brought him home at 7 weeks old, I wasn't sure I could mould him into being a guide dog. But now, as I look on the floor, he has his jacket on and is sleeping, and just waiting to work. He has learned how to navigate stairs, find the car, wait at curbs, and more. He has done so much in his short life that I cannot help but be proud of him. My only hope is that he does very well in his training, and continues down the very positive path he is on. Maybe one of you out there reading this will get him, and we can come visit him sometime. Smile.
Scout, we are going to miss you! Godspeed!
