The BookSense Buddy is Your Friend

BookSense Buddy is a piece of software provided by GW Micro that provides a simple and consistent method of transferring files to BookSense devices. The BookSense Standard, BookSense XT, and upcoming BookSense DS are all supported, plus the BookSense Buddy software is available for free. It sounds obvious, but beginner computer users have the most difficulty with devices like the BookSense, not because of the devices themselves so much, but because they lack the knowledge required to extract and transfer files using a computer. We've found that many people gave the BookSense device to a visually impaired family member as a gift without thinking about the whole idea of getting content on the BookSense. So our goal in developing BookSense Buddy was to come up with a solution that would allow BookSense users without much computing knowledge to access their books, music, and documents, and transfer them to their BookSense without needing to know the ins and outs of unzipping, copying, and pasting. BookSense Buddy does this by proving a quasi-explorer like list view that lists only those files and folders that are supported media types. Users can simply queue the items they're interested in, and then transfer them to the BookSense with the press of a button. BookSense Buddy takes care of unzipping (if necessary) and copying to the correct locations on a BookSense drive. In addition to file transfers, BookSense Buddy also provides direct access to the latest available firmware for the BookSense. In just a couple of keyboard shortcuts, the firmware is downloaded, extracted, and copied to the BookSense. No hassle. No fuss.
