♫ Oh, the Weather Outside is WARNING: WINTER STORM WARNING ♫
by Aaron Smith on Wednesday, January 7 2009Yes, it's that joyous and wonderful time of year again: 20 degrees below zero wind-chill, sleet, freezing rain. A few days ago, the snow paused to let a bout of thunder and lightning pass through before it picked up again. Mike's power was out for a few days. Raul has been without power since last Friday. Jeremy lost power for awhile on Sunday. It's a mess, and I'm glad we're taking a holiday break. Not that January promises to be any better, weather-wise.
But enough gloom. Let's toss another Yule blog on the fire, and reminisce about the days of yore. This year has been a bittersweet year for the GW Micro crew. On one hand, we were able to release our favorite version of Window-Eyes yet, filled to the brim with scripting. Developing scripts has been fun and exciting, and watching other scripters get their hands in the guts of Window-Eyes has been a joy as well. People are already doing some amazing things with Window-Eyes scripting, and it's only been out a few months.
On the other hand, this has been a sad year, as we mourned the loss of our good friend Clarence. I think his name comes up in one way or another almost every day. He would have been absolutely thrilled with the development of Window-Eyes, as well as with the Sense notetakers. He would have loved using them, and he would have loved selling them. We miss him so much.
But we continue to grow, despite our losses, and have introduced two new members to the GW Micro family. Drew Markley has been with us since about six months ago, and Peter Wuerl just signed up last week. Both of them will be working with Dan, Jeremy, and Chris in the sales and training departments. I know, I know. Like we need even more sales guys. Just kidding.
Our customer base has been growing as well. On the support side of things, we're seeing quite an influx of new customers, mostly converts from other screen reader products, who are excited about what Window-Eyes has to offer. Over the past 10 years that I've been at GW, I have to say this has been one of the busiest years to date. That's not a complaint, mind you. It's rather exhilarating to watch us grow.
So what does the new year have to offer our loyal customers? Lots and lots. Several big ticket items have been asked for, and several big ticket items will be delivered. What those big ticket items are, however, I'll leave up to you to speculate about.
I'll leave you with a couple New Year's resolutions. The first one is the same one I had last year, and I am very proud to say I was able to stick to it the entire year. So once again, for the year 2009, I resolve to be even more gluttonous, glutinous, and self-appreciative. You should try it too!
I also resolve to blog a bit more often than never. I have lots of things to talk about; customers want to know what's going on. It's time I made time to let folk know.
But that's it for now. If you're celebrating, I wish you a happy holidays. If you're not celebrating, I wish you regular ol' happy days. We should remember to take the kindness and caring felt around this time of year, and share them with others all year long.
Talk to you next year.
