Definition
Macromedia Flash is what is known as a vector-graphic animation tool. Vector graphics are defined through mathematical equations rather than pixels like bitmaps. This tool allows web developers to create either simple or highly complex interactive animations without compromising bandwidth. Window-Eyes exposes all Flash elements seamlessly with the rest of the web page contents.
Navigation
There are no navigation options for Flash.
Verbosity
| • | Insert Beginning / End Message – This option will notify the user of the beginning and end positions of the Flash element. For example, if a user navigates to a Flash object with this feature enabled, Window-Eyes will announce, "Begin Flash." When the user navigates past the Flash element, Window-Eyes will announce, "End Flash." |
With this option enabled, Window-Eyes will announce when Flash animations are present on a web page. When Flash events are enabled, due to Flash's constant updating of the information presented on the screen, Window-Eyes may reload the Browse Mode buffer numerous times to make sure that you always have the most up to date information available from the Flash animation. To toggle Browse Mode loading for Flash animations, use the Suspend Page Refresh hot key (ALT-SHIFT-M by default).
Flash animations are accessed just like other controls on a web page. TAB will move you forward through the items in a Flash animation while SHIFT-TAB will move you backward through the items. To move through the text of a Flash movie, simply use your arrow keys, just like you would at any other point on a web page.
If you are unclear whether the page you are on contains Flash animations or not, you can press the speak summary hot key (CTRL-SHIFT-S by default), and Window-Eyes will announce (among other options) whether Flash is present or not.
