GWKB1111 : Upgrading to Windows 7 with Window-Eyes

Before upgrading to Windows 7 through a supported operating system upgrade path, you will need to first uninstall Window-Eyes (after backing up any customized settings), and then re-install Window-Eyes after the operating system upgrade is complete. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not copy video drivers during an operating system upgrade, meaning Window-Eyes will not function until after the upgrade has been performed successfully and Window-Eyes has been re-installed.

Basic Upgrade Steps from Windows Vista to Windows 7

  1. From Windows Vista, uninstall Window-Eyes using the Programs and Features control panel. This will require a reboot.
  2. Using Narrator (Windows-U), begin the Windows 7 upgrade following Microsoft's recommend upgrade installation instructions.
  3. After the installation, when Windows 7 has finalized and booted to the desktop, insert your Window-Eyes 7.X CD and follow the standard Window-Eyes installation procedure (note: versions of Window-Eyes prior to 7.0 do not support Windows 7). If you are installing a version of Window-Eyes prior to 7.11, you should immediately upgrade to the 7.11 (or latest version) through the Window-Eyes Upgrade page.
Note: Installation of Window-Eyes on a 64-bit operating system requires a Window-Eyes 7.11 CD.
