The ReadIt Wand is a digital USB camera solution that includes a powerful software application enabling individuals who are blind or visually impaired to convert both printed materials and digital files into accessible electronic text.  Once the text is converted by ReadIt, the document can be visually enhanced and read using the human sounding text-to-speech synthesizers included in the program.

The ReadIt software program is self-voicing so a screen reader user by default would hear double speech when they navigate the ReadIt software interface.  To create a more user friendly experience, screen reader users should set the ReadIt interface verbosity to low.  This will cause ReadIt to only speak when reading within a document and not when navigating the application's menus or dialogs.  Here are the steps to set the ReadIt interface verbosity to low:

1. Open ReadIt

2. Open the Tools menu and select the Options menu item to access the Options dialog

3. Press CONTROL-TAB until you reach the Interface Tab

4. Press TAB until you reach the Speech Verbosity combo box

5. Use your arrow keys to select Low

6. TAB to the OK button and press ENTER
