A couple of weeks ago, I did drop a message on the lists, informing you all about a new app that is under its development. The app is called Extended Dictionary, and intends to meet several of the requests from many of you, for a better exception dictionary feature in Window-Eyes. I have been working on the app for a good handful of weeks now, and the Beta now is just about ready to be distributed to those of you who want to participate in the Beta-cycle. I had a hope to have had it all Beta-going already, but there has been a few days delay. This mainly due to the time it took to write the quite excessive documentation for the app.
A couple of effects, that has been implemented into the new app since I last did inform you of its features, would be:
When shipping, the dictionary will already have been set up in such a way, that fractional numbers will be handled correctly. You no longer need to listen to your recipes telling you to add 1 2 teaspons of salt, when it actually meant half a teaspoon. With the app installed, your fractions will read as "half", "quarter" and "thirty seconds".
It will further handle most dates, that are written in their short forms. Like, when you see a date written as 21/03/-2012. It should now read as "March twentyfirst 2012".
For those of you, who are doing a lot of measurement reading, and who are tired of having either to guess which numbers are in inches, or deal with the speech saying "quote" after each number, here is another little goodie. The app ships with definitions, that should make most of measurements in inches, be spoken like "one inch", "three quarter inch", "fifteen inch", and so forth.
My goal is to release the Beta version for testing, to all that has expressed their want to participate - right in the middle of next week. Please be aware, that once the Beta has been distributed, it will no longer be possible to join the beta-cycle. Therefore, for all who has not yet expressed their wish to join, please drop me a line at the below Email. Please do not expect to be included in the cycle, simply by replying to this message on the list.
I specially welcome international users, or those of you, who make use of more than one voice in your computer activity. Since the app stores separate dictionaries for each voice, it is of importance to have it tested in environments where the user frequently switches between different voices. This whether he or she does so out of convenience, or due to switching between multiple languages, with each their voices. Might I even call specially for at least one user, who has access to an external synthesizer, like a USB synth. I have tested the ap here, with Eloquence, and a couple of SAPI voices, since that is what I have access to; and expect most users would be using. But it sure would be nice, to see if it works in conjunction with an external synth as well.
Welcome to a Beta-testing!
