I've not paid close attention in the past, but seem to recall that oddities
like this have happened ever since I've been using windows and eloquence,
about 18 months now. I just didn't pay much attention to it. So I suspect
nothing has changed in your situation either. Perhaps the passage you
shared is so loaded with apostrophes that you had to sit up and take notice.

When I use the dectalk for window eyes, I only get one spoken apostrophe in
the phrase:

'First week in August

Is this exactly how you are reproducing the passage with DecTalk?

That is an interesting observation. That is what is happening in that

passage. All the apostrophes I am hearing are preceding a capital letter.
Why? This never happened before? Not that I ever heard it.or had the

occasions to question it.
I have never been plagued with apostrophes. Smile

What is different now? Has something happened to my beloved Read? Is it
fatal? Grin

A follow-up to my previous message. When I switched the synthe to the
window eyes dectalk, none of the apostrophe punctuation was spoken except

for one leading apostrophe in the following quote:

I also used the AT&T Mike sapi five synthe, and in that case, no speaking

apostrophe anywhere in the passage. Same result with the Microsoft Sam

Switching back to the eloquence, Interestingly, in the very last phrase

the passage which reads:

'never live it down.'

neither the beginning or ending apostrophe are spoken

I tried a couple eloquence voices and had the same result.

Wondering if this pattern occurs when the apostrophe is adjacent to

certain

characters when using eloquence, specifically capital letters.

Try this experiment while writing a message with eloquence.

Place an apostrophe adjacent to a word beginning with a small letter,

then
do it against a capital letter.

Example: 'alligator

versus 'Alligator

Notice how eloquence speaks the apostrophe when adjacent to a capital
letter.

Exactly how it is handled at ends of words I can't duplicate. Any

notions?

That's all I can come up with now.
