Gee! Is this something worth arguing over? At work, the attachments I
receive are usually things that I want to save and refer to later.

I don't know. There is an attachment I get everyday that I never save.
I know what it is and who it is from in the office. I always just open
it. You're making it sound like you must save them and that is not the
case. If I know who it'is from and what it is, to me there is no
reason to go through that when you can just read it. The one I open
everyday is a daily outs list in the office. Of course, we all know
that if you "don't!", know what it is, don't! Open it!

Hi Sandra,

In most applications, you can use keystrokes to perform a function, or
you can use the physical mouse. In your case, you are moving the
physical mouse using keys provided by Window-Eyes that manipulate the
physical mouse. This is an excellent way to open an attachment in
Outlook as you pointed out.
The only thing I was trying to say was that Outlook does not provide you
with a way to access the attachment via the keyboard without actually
accessing the File menu, and then saving the attachment. This was in
regard to Martha's original question to try to help her open
attachments. Since I didn't know if Martha was a new or advanced user,
I suggested the File menu because the mouse can be a difficult concept
for some new users to grasp at first. I hope this makes more sense.

Sandra,

You are correct that you can use the mouse to open the attachment, but
Outlook does not allow keystrokes to access the attachment without
accessing the File menu. For example, you cannot press SHIFT-TAB to get
to the attachment like you can in Outlook Express. However, your idea
to use the mouse is a great solution for Martha.

No. You do not have to go to the file menu and save the attachment I
think there is different things that people do. I thit enter on the
message, use the number pad, start at the top of he message, arrow
with the number 2 key, usually the name of the attachment is right
above the word, attachment, I use that left mouse button and double
click on it. And It will give you a choice if you want to save or open
it. I think there is a shift you can use to also get to the attachment.

What you were experiencing was a problem with the Intel video drivers.
Sometime, the hot keys Intel uses for various video settings conflict
with Window-Eyes hot keys, such as CTRL-ALT-RIGHT ARROW. You can go in
to the Control Panel in Windows, and under the Intel settings, you will
find a checkbox to turn off the hot keys for the Intel video driver.



Regarding Outlook, you will need to go to the File menu, and save the
attachment because Outlook does not give you another way to access the
attachment.

Yesterday was a very interesting morning. I had been studying about
Window-Eyes on the Friday before and so expected things to go on as
usual.

I booted up, and nothing in my email would read. I noticed when I
booted up and was about to log on, that it said something about size.
But I wondered if something was up with the screen.

I called a friend, and she laughed and said my screen was turned
sideways. I'd never heard of such a thing. She tried a few things, but
nothing happened.

We finally called the Office of Information and Technology (known as
OIT) and the man remotely logged on to my computer so he could take a
look. It's amazing to me how one person in one building can log on to
another computer across the complex without blinking.

Anyway, he tried different things, and couldn't find the "rotate" option
in the control panel. He tried several times and couldn't find it.

Finally, he updated my video card, I rebooted, and things looked sort of
ok. He found the option he was looking for, did some other things, and
I was back in business. My friend said she was glad, because her neck
hurt, trying to look sideways!

She mentioned about something up with Window-Eyes, and I said that was
my department, and, if necessary, I could call for support.

Went into the email (we use Microsoft Outlook here) and still couldn't
figure out what was up. Kept outlook on the screen, and went into WE
control panel. went into "General", thought I'd press V and see what
happened. Trumpet sound! I could read again! I have the keyboard
voice off as I can't stand letters/words being told me as I type.

Anyway, all turned out well, and I was happy.

Now, I have a small question. The We Manual has no detailed section
about email. I couldn't find it anyway. How does one find and open
attachments in outlook with Window-eyes? I'm going to email myself and
attach something, and see if what I'm thinking works. I'll let you
know. Meanwhile, maybe someone has an idea or two.

story to tell!
