I have encountered what I consider to be a very annoying feature in Windows 7. Quite suddenly all of my Audible books disappeared from where I put them and were placed in the Public documents folder under the Public users folder. I am very particular about how I organize my media, for example I like to keep my music tracks in folders named for the site where I bought the song and only put songs bought from the iTunes store in the actual iTunes library folder. I keep songs I’ve ripped myself in a separate folder as well.

All of this is based on my own organizational peculiarities, but of late the issue has become even more important. For the time being, since my PC is no longer working, I am borrowing a family member’s computer until I can get a new desktop. Her hard drive is only half a gig and I am already taking up over half of her storage with just the Audible books and my rips of movie soundtracks obtained through use of DVD Audio Extractor.

What I want to do is place all of my media on an external USB 3.0 hard drive so I am only using up my own storage space, but I don’t want Windows taking it upon itself to be so annoyingly helpful and moving all of my media around where it thinks the files should be, but I haven’t been able to determine where to restrict this function. If I can find it, I can just turn the feature off as the owner of the computer does not like it either.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Chris
