Well, I thought I had read you could download trial versions of Office which
would work fully for a limitted amount of time; perhaps you could use the
trial version to get you through your temporary situation?
I really know nothing much about Office Starter, and since it can't be
downloaded, I won't have any chance to check it out. I can see it looks
like they've disabled the object model, and so screen readers may not be
able to get any info from it.
You could try narrator or NVDA to see what it can read for you from Office
Starter; that way, you'd know if it's a Window-Eyes issue or really no
screen reader can work with this app.
hth,
Chip

Chip,
I was hoping to just use it to be able to open and read Word documents for a
while until I figure out whether I can transfer a license from another
machine. It sounds like it isn't worth it from what you have said.
Best regards,
