David,

Not only is this doable, but you could also use something like ALT-Arrow
keys to navigate around the list view like a spreadsheet. To wet your
taste buds a bit, this is already doable with scripting in the internal
Window-Eyes stuff that we're developing to be Window-Eyes 7.0.

Hi Erin,

I know you have answered my query already but on reading back my previous
messages on this subject, I just wanted to clarify that I would like to be
able to read contents of individual columns within listviews via a set of
definable hotkeys. E.G. alt+1 would read first column within the listview,
alt+2 would read the second column within the listview and so on.

Hi Erin,

Sorry I didn't clarify, yes I meant reading contents of individual columns
within listviews etc. Thanks for clarifying the above.

David,

Window-Eyes already reads list view columns. Or are you talking about
reading just a specific column in a list view? If so, there's not a way
to currently do that, but knowing what I know about scripting, I don't
see why you couldn't set that up.

Yeah, I agree 100% with Jim on this. Although I still have one count left
on
my SMA, I'll be surely renewing it when it expires. Then depending on how
good the scripting language is, I might be able to switch over from Jaws
completely to Wineyes. Now that'd be something for me smile. The other
query I have, is there a way to read contents of columns in listviews etc?
If not, I hope there will be a way to script that functionality into
Wineyes. Thanks in advance,

The wonderful thing is you will have both tools. The set file which is
quite easy to set up and a powerful system. Then a scripting system which
is somewhat harder to set up and even more powerful. So you got the best
of
both worlds here. Unlike with jaws where you got a very powerful
scripting system but almost no other means of setting up the program. The
thing is here everyone will be able to take advantage of the script and
the
set. Grate work GW Micro. I have been begging and pleading for this
for
years and I am so happy that what I want is finely in sight. When the
next
version comes out with this feature you can count on my order.

I beg to differ with you. Set files are powerful and very useful, and
much
easier to learn then some scripting language. That is my opinion and
perhaps no one else thinks I am right but I really am not concerned about
that. I wil say this that if you feel like scrips will help you and you
can
write tem then that will b good for all those who can use them. Rick

Window-Eyes is long overdue for something like this.
I applaud GW Micro for finally taking this step.
Set files have never been powerful.
With a scripting engine, Window-Eyes is finally becoming a little more
competitive with JFW.
Instead of asking software venders to alter their software, GW Micro is
taking a more active step to adapt Window-Eyes to work with them.
Let's just hope that the scripting engine from Window-Eyes will not be as
much a CPU hog as the Jaws scripting engine.
