Hello Mike. It seems to me that perhaps you used to use Window-Eyes
version 4.2 or 4.5. In the past, the insert-arrow-keys would change the
voices on the fly, however this has been changed to using the
control-alt-arrow-keys for better compatibility. Also, in the versobity
dialog insert-v you will find options on changing how you want
Window-Eyes to speak things such as the index in the misc section. Under
the focus and misc sections, you will find options on making Window-Eyes
say things in different order. After you make any voice or verbosity
changes, go into the File menu of Window-Eyes and save the set file. If
you are prompted for a file name by an edit box, just press escape key,
in either case, your voice and verbosity changes will be saved.

The app starting and arrow messages you are hearing have to do with the
mouse pointers of Windows. Window-Eyes is simpy telling you the shape of
the pointer which in my opinion is very important. In fact, prior to
Window-Eyes on Windows 2000 and above, Window-Eyes would tell you this
information since back in the earlier windows 95 and 98 days, but many
people have forgotten this or how useful it can be. If you go to our kb
article 1066, it will tell you what the mouse pointers are doing and how
to turn them off. The direct link for this is http://gwmicro.com/kb1066.

Hope this helps, and please write back if you still have questions.

Hello fellow Gw Micro customers and Window-eyes users,
I've just installed my new copy of Window-eyes 6.1. However, there are
a few things, to which I've noticed right away in version 6.1 that I
don't like, and would like to change, if possible. First, Window-eyes
now says "app starting" whenever something pops up on my screen
automatically. I'd prefer not to hear this message. How do I turn this
off? Secondly, I've noticed that when I'm in a list of options, such as
a tree view, Window-eyes no longer says tree view, nor is it telling me
how many options are in the list. For example, When I'm in my list of
emails, normally, Window-eyes gives me information about the email, such
as the date it came in, and the subject line to which the sender used,
and then it goes on to tell me which message I'm on, and how many
messages are in the list. For example, 1 of 36, 2 of 36, 3 of 36 ETC.
Also, in previous versions of Window-eyes, whenever we wanted to change
the pitch, rate, volume, or tone of all the voices at once, we could do
so on the fly, simply by holding down the numpad insert key, and use the
four arrows, that look like an upside down letter (T) to change each
parameter separately, or change them altogether. It seems that in
Window-eyes 6.1, we can no longer do that. How do I change voice
parameters on the fly, without having to go into the Window-eyes control
pannel each time? Window-eyes, now announces controls and their names
backwards. Well, at least, to me it does. For example, instead of
(button start,) it now says, (start button. It does this for practically
every button I encounter. I'd rather hear buttons announced the other
way around. How do I switch things back, so that Window-eyes will say
the name of the control first? Finally, there appears to be something
very strange with the Window-eyes control pannel. When I press control
backslash to bring it up, and press the alt key for the file menu and
(L) to go into global, I now hear Window-eyes say something like
"beginner level 1." What happened to the global menu? I've never seen
Window-eyes like this. I can't make heads or tails of it. Everything
appears to be moved around, and I'd like to setup 6.1, so that it
opporates more like the old Window-eyes. I hope you'll forgive the long
post: I'm not complaining, Its just that Window-eyes 6.1, looks quite
different from what I expected. If you need me to clairify anything as
to what I'm trying to get Window-eyes to do, you can write to me off list.
