To list,
I am merely going to suggest that these ideals can be somewhat
enforced. The thing is folks that not all people learn the same ways. For
example, a deaf person learns more by visual perspectives rather than a
visually impaired person learning primarily from hearing. It seems that the
ones that want this radical change in Gw-Micro are veteran users that have
lost their sympathy towards new users. Perhaps, they have forgotten what it
is like being a new user of Window-Eyes. I will say another thing about
training in assessible technology. Where I went to school, they didn't teach
you about the manual that much. If you have been taught a certain way of
studying through the use of screen readers, then how are you to change that
easily? Everyone appears to make it sound like it is an easy thing. It is
not an easy thing, and there is still many things that Window-Eyes hasn't
begun to do yet. There is still glitches in Window-Eyes version 6.0, but
that is common knowledge. The differing user base that is at Gw-Micro can be
rather diverse. The staff apparent have forgot about this as well. Well,
what will they do all day if they don't have questions thrown at them? I
mean really? They will sit back in their comfortable chairs, and rotate
slowly around the room. This is even true of Microsoft without the e-mails,
calls and other such communications. They won't really be doing much at all.
Of course, they will be trying to work out glitches, but without clients
pointing them out, how will they even know? I seriously doubt that they even
have someone that constantly checks for glitches in Window-Eyes. I realize
to the fullest of comprehention that there are other products at Gw-Micro. I
don't believe that they are of the same division by any means of the
imagination. The great spectrum of users can have a an additional
disability, different learning style, age related complications, lack of
computer knowledge or terminology, an dependence of others, and etc. How
dare everyone expect just because they can do it that would mean that
everyone else can do it just as well. Some people can write, read, or be
good at math. This doesn't mean that they are good at all three; however, it
does mean that there is always room for improvement. I am inclined to
believe that Gw-Micro is becoming another Freedom Scientific organization,
which is to say that they forget about the single users. It hasn't happened
yet, but I can see it happening in the near future. The bigger a corporation
gets, the less the technical support you shall receive. For the amount of
money that us, the users pay, we deserve some compensation. I mean the ideal
is great guys, but in reality it will never hold up. Think about it a bit,
we are all different. We have had differing experiences in life. I really
liked Gw-Micro, but my loyalty has slightly been bruised from this thread.
They appear to give this attitude of " Do it yourself." This is great for
lots of people, but some of us fall short of this. It is like everyone
expects you to be some type of computer nerd, which I am not. I would much
rather read or write all day rather than spending valuable time on a
computer. Do you guys understand? I have to go, and calm down before I
erupt. I don't want to say something that I will regret.
Sincerely,
Peter Wolfe
