Hi all,
The next public beta (beta 9) of the "remind Me Where" app is now available
for download from:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11745142/Remind_Me_Where.wepm
The differences between this and the previous public beta are primarily in
the "Get Directions" dialog, which has undergone quite a lot of
enhancements.
.. First, you can now get transit system directions for those cities
which provide Google with the information. This includes exact times of
departures, stop counts, stations to disembark at, approximate riding times,
etc.
.. * The directions are now available as either a treeview control in
the dialog, or via an optional button they will be displayed in their own
browser window, where they can be copied if desired (and where optional
Google links may be available).
.. In the treeview control you can highlight any of the "steps" in
the list of directions, and then perform a "look around" or "search nearby"
from the location of that step. So for example, if a particular step
involves taking a bus from a specific stop or station, you can "look around"
to see what places are near the bus stop.
.. The treeview control allows you to see the directions in their
"overview", or to expand any step where Google has provided detailed
sub-steps, there-by giving you much more explicit detail for any step.
.. Either the "to" or "from" locations can be specified as a street
address, a POI in your personal database, or starting with a street address
you can perform a "nearby search" for Google places and select one of those
as your starting or ending points.
.. A menu item has been added which allows you to perform a "look
around" or "nearby search" from a specified address.
.. Any of the Google places which appear in the "look around" or
"nearby search" results have two optional buttons, one for the Google page
for the place, and another for the "official" web site page for that place.
These allow you to open a separate browser window to visit the pages while
in the middle of any activity without disturbing the operation.
Thanks to the continuing efforts of beta testers a long list of bugs have
been corrected, as well as new features or changes to operations have
occurred. I especially appreciate those who have offered ideas for new
features or methods of operating which will make the app more useful.
The app requires another app named "GPS" to be installed, even if you don't
make use of a GPS receiver. This app is available on app central, and the
Remind Me Where app will now offer to automatically download and install it
for you if necessary. I do hope to make more options available in the
future to those who have laptops with GPS receivers.
Enjoy,
Chip
