GW Micro - Portable SenseView - FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
-
How long do the rechargeable batteries last before they need to be replaced?
This is an impossible question to answer, as it depends upon many variables. For example, how often does the unit get used? Does the consumer let the battery drain all the way, or do they let it charge constantly? The battery is a lithium polymer battery. For more information on lithium polymer batteries, you can visit the following website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_polymer_battery.
Essentially, asking this question is like asking how long your cell phone battery will last, or how long your car battery will last. In general, the battery will most likely last at least one year, and probably longer before it needs replaced. Again, this is highly variable and results will vary.

When the battery needs to be replaced, can I do it myself?

The Portable SenseView manual says, "After 6 to 12 months, the lifespan of the battery may begin to decrease." Does this mean my battery will die after 6 months?
No. This is a mistranslation from when the manual was translated from Korean to English. This statement is attempting to say that after you use the battery for a period of time, it may not be as strong as it once was. For example, if you used to get 5 hours of continuous use out of the battery when you first got the unit, you might only get 4.5 hours of continuous use after 12 months. This is not to say this is what you will see, but simply an example. Another analogy would be after you have used your cell phone for over a year, you notice that you have to charge the battery more often because it drains faster. This is the type of behavior you will see with any battery operated device, and the Portable SenseView is no exception.
-
How long does the battery last before it needs to be recharged?
It lasts from 4.5 to 5 hours of continuous use until it needs to be recharged.
-
How long does it take to recharge the battery when it is completely dead?
3 hours
-
Can I charge the battery while I use the Portable SenseView?
Yes
-
If my battery goes dead, can I connect the Portable SenseView to AC power, and continue to use it?
Yes (also see the next question)
-
Which hole do I connect the AC adapter to?
You should connect AC power to the hole that is located on the same side as the power switch. There is a hole that is on the opposite side of the unit. This is for an external camera, and not for AC power. The unit will not charge if the AC adapter is connected to the wrong port.
-
Can the Portable SenseView connect to a TV or computer monitor?
No
-
Can the Portable SenseView be used for handwriting?
Yes, there is a separate accessory to allow for handwriting. Go to http://www.gwmicro.com/SenseView/Handwriting_Camera/ for more information.
