You Activate this game by holding down the Control-Shift keys then pressing the S key and releasing all of them. You are then taken to a menu and Tree View list of game command options window. The Trek game is run by either tabbing once to a list of 3 buttons or going to the Run menu and selecting what voice engine to use to run the game. The third button on the list you tabbed to is used to edit the ship names if you wish to. A combo box will come with all the ship names. Editin the ship names is done by tabbing to the edit button and that takes you to an edit box. To save the change tab to the Save button of use the Alt-S hot key. You can delete names or insert new ones in as long as you have placed that name in the edit box first. Any changes or insertions must have something inside the edit box. You have a help menu to assist you in running the game and explanation for some short cut commands to allow a one entry quick command; which most commands have. You can even display on the screen by hitting the F8 key which toggles on and off; default is off, (which is voices only.) Your goal is to destroy all Klingons before you run out of energy and time(StarDates). Less energy and time is used if you use the warp sparingly. Newly added is the voice adjustment for both WE and Sapi voices in the voice menu before running the game. You select Captain, Spock, or Scotty voice and it takes you to a selection of 4 combo boxes for each adjustment: Tone, Rate, Pitch, and Volume. Once you have made the adjustments you save them by tabbig to the save button or exit either by clicking the cancel button or just hitting Escape or Alt-F4 to not save settings. The voice engine selection can be toggled between the 2 options by hitting the F5 key any time while playing the game. The Trek game is played by typing in a 3 or 4 character code for each command. The list of commands is in the Start Up window for the game either in the Command menu or in the Tree View displayed on the screen. Getting a description of each command just hit the space bar while on the command, or left mouse clicking on that command, or expanding it. Some commands do have a single character shortcut. To Navigate around the galaxy you enter NAV and hit the enter key. Then you are asked to enter a direction to travel and that is a number between 1 and 8.999. When entering 1 then pressing enter key you travel to the right, 2 is diagonally up and to the right, 3 is vertically up and 5 is horizontally left then 7 is vertically down. All other numbers are diagonal travel like the 2 is but in the direction they reside in when going counterclockwise from the number 1. Entering 4 is diagonally up and to the left, entering 6 is diagonally down and to the left, and entering 8 is diagonally down and to the right. You can enter fractional numbers which are offsets from the whole number you are using in the same counterclockwise direction. You have weapons and like the NAV there the first 3 digits of there respective names, such as PHA for Phaser and Tor for Torpedo. The speed you travel in is called warp speed and each warp represents the distance to travel straight across a quadrant inside the galaxy. When going diagonally you are traveling the hypotenuse of a triangle and if going diagonally across a quadrant you end up traveling 1.4 warp speed to reach the other diagonal corner of a quadrant box, if you had started from the other corner diagonally across. So base all your speed on this value. Traveling just one sector inside a galaxy a speed of .1 will get you to the next sector and .14 diagonally across one sector. Which means inside of a quadrant you are traveling less than 1 warp. To find the enemy ships you have to use (SRS) short range sensors, (MRS) for Medium Range Sensors, or (LRS) Long Range sensors. There are thre hotkeys for some entries: Del key for Probe, End key for Medium Range Sensors, and Page Down key for Long Range Sensors. Only Long Range Sensors will map the galaxy and tell you how many Klingons, stars and Starbases there are in each quadrant surrounding the quadrant you reside in. The ones digit are the numbers of stars. The tens digit tells you how many Starbases there are in a quadrant and the hundreds digit tells you how many Klingons reside in a quadrant. In other words 213 would indicate 2 Klingons, 1 Starbase and 3 stars reside inside a quadrant you scanned. You can also reach out into the galaxy outside of your present location by using the Probe command which is done by entering PRB for the probe instead of the 3 letters PRO, or press the Dell key. It is like Navigation the Probe requires the direction to travel and the warp speed. So a direction of 4 will send you diagonally off to the left and up diagonally. Entering a warp speed of 4 will take you at least 3 quadrants away from the present location. If the Probe makes it out of your quadrant without hitting a star or something else it will show a grid of 9 quadrants with the 3 digit values inside each box. If at the edge of the galaxy you will get an X instead of a number. To get a map of the galaxy which tells you what you have scanned, type the word MAP or hit the Home key. It will show all locations of 3 digit values indicating Klingons, Starbases, and Stars. When restoring energy and doing repairs you can either do it by navigating to a star base or letting the computer do it by entering the DOC command to indicate you want to Dock your ship. Once docked the ship gets all its repairs done and energy restoreed, including the restocking of weapons. You can get those values at any time by typing STA for status of your ship. If you want to know your location just hit the enter key. If you want to know the status of Klingons along with immediate location you type in KLI for Klingons and that report will be given to you. Short range sensors or SRS will give you a report of all objects in the quadrant, including the direction from the Enterprise. Entering MRS or hitting the End key, will give you Medium Range Sensors. It displays your present quadrant, giving you a picture of what is there. Entering LRS or hitting the Page Down key, is the Long Range Sensors for your quadrant, which gives you the status of all 8 surrounding quadrants. Entering MAP, or hitting the Home key, will give you a map of the entire galaxy based on long range sensor sweeps. If there are areas that have not been scanned an X will be entered in that quadrant location. Adjusting Voices: Hit the F2, F3, or F4 keys for the respective: Computer/Captain, Spock, and Scotty voices. Then use the up and down cursor arrow keys to adjust voice name, rate, pitch, and volume. Each adjustment is gotten to by its first letter, R key for rate... and you either hit the escape key to exit or go to the volume adjustment, V key and then hitting the enter key to exit. The F5 key toggles between using Windoweyes voices or Sapi voices. All adjustments use the F1 to F4 keys, where F1 forces you to adjust all 3 voices and escape key exits each voice adjustment and saves the settings. You can even display on the screen using the F8 key or entering a P before some commands that display grids. The F8 key toggles on and off and default is off; (Voices Only)

Version 3.6 Corrected Voice setting inside .ini file so Captain voice works. Corrected all display issues so sighted people can use game without errors Added Ship Name help in dialog help menu. Corrected memory error for those machines which had a program error when loading game dialog and making menu's. Version 3.5 Added complete display for the game for sighted users. It also added ship name editting. The F8 key is still used to toggle display on and off. But there is now an F9 key which allows delay for the display so the explosion or sounds coincide with the display. The F9 key default is off for sighted users if they want a faster game. Also added is the ability to add names or change names of each of the ships used in the game. You can also edit them in the Trek.ini file, but duplicate numbers on the left side of the equal sign will just erase the number seen first.
