GWConnect 2.13
by GW MicroEver since the initial release of the Skype™ client in mid 2003, people from all around the world have used it to initiate high-quality voice and text conversations, send and receive files, and stay in touch with one another. The visually impaired community, likewise, has used Skype since then to facilitate equal communication with each other and their sighted counterparts.
However, as the service has grown, so too has the program. For years, screen reader users have kept up with Skype's ever-morphing interface either with custom patches, scripts, or apps. While largely successful, such utilities must be constantly maintained as any new version of Skype can, and often will, cause previously working scripts or apps to stop functioning properly.
In mid 2011, Skype announced its SkypeKit developer program. This service allows program developers to directly access nearly all Skype services without the additional need of traversing its user interface. Developers, therefore, can create their own interface to Skype and seamlessly integrate it into their own products. And, because the underlying Skype services are much less likely to change on a whim, GW Micro decided to take advantage of this service and create a simple, elegant, fully accessible interface to Skype which is designed with the visually impaired community in mind.
GWConnect is an application that is plugged into Skype. Having full control of the user interface also means that unlike the official Skype client, GWConnect's interface will not dramatically change from version to version. When you learn how to use GWConnect today, you can be confident that your knowledge will continue to apply in the future as new versions are released.
Why GWConnect?
- GWConnect will always make the Skype service available to blind and visually impaired computer users regardless of new versions of Skype that are released.
- GWConnect is a demonstration of the power of interfacing with Window-Eyes.
- All blind and visually impaired users who are running Windows can use GWConnect at no cost. Even those consumers not running Window-Eyes can still download and use GWConnect. Note that non-Window-Eyes users will receive periodic advertisements every half hour. To run GWConnect ad-free, visit the GWConnect catalog page to purchase an activation license. Note that aside from running with ads, the free version has no other restrictions.
Frequently Asked Questions
The following are some frequently asked questions and answers regarding GWConnect. If you continue to have questions or require assistance after reading this section, please use the information in the "Contact Information" section to reach a GW Micro support specialist.
Do I have to install the official Skype client to use GWConnect?
No. The GWConnect setup contains everything required to interact with the Skype service. You may, however, install the official Skype client and switch between the two programs at your own discretion.
Do I have to be a Window-Eyes user to run GWConnect?
No. GWConnect will work with all recent versions of Windows screen readers and magnifiers. GWConnect is written to allow all blind and visually impaired people, regardless of screen reader preference, to have an easy, accessible Skype experience.
How much does GWConnect cost?
GWConnect costs nothing. It is available for free at http://www.gwmicro.com/apps/GWConnect. If you are not a Window-Eyes user, however, you may purchase an ad-free experience by visiting the GWConnect catalog page at http://www.gwmicro.com/catalog/gw_connect.
Can I sign up for the Skype service with GWConnect?
Yes. To sign up for Skype, simply open the "Sign In" window from under the Skype menu and click the "Sign up for Skype" button. You will be taken to the account sign up web page at Skype.com where you can create a new account. When your account has been successfully created, enter your new Skype username and password into the sign in window, click "Sign In," and you can begin using Skype immediately.
Why does my password disappear when I open the sign in window?
The part of GWConnect responsible for handling communication between the GWConnect user interface and the Skype service handles all password storage and management. As such, GWConnect itself never stores your password for any reason. Thus, if you have GWConnect set to automatically sign in to your account and you have instructed it to remember your password, the program will do so until you manually sign out.
Whenever I talk to someone, the rest of my Windows audio gets turned down. How do I fix this?
Windows Vista and Windows 7 include a feature where the operating system automatically ducks any background audio whenever services such as GWConnect are used. This has the unfortunate consequence of also turning down your software speech synthesizer. To disable this:
- Press the Windows key to open the Start Menu.
- Enter "sound," and press the Down Arrow until you reach the Control Panel applet.
- Press Control-Tab until you reach the "Communications" tab.
- Your keyboard focus lands in a group of radio buttons. Press the Down Arrow until you reach "Do Nothing."
- Press Alt-A to activate the "Apply" button.
- Press Enter to close the dialog.
Now, when you make or receive Skype calls, your Windows audio settings will be left alone.
Why can't I send or receive video calls?
While the Windows Skype runtime includes some video support, the needed infrastructure was not made available in time for GWConnect 2.0. GWConnect will be updated to support video calling in a future update.
Can I run GWConnect and the official Skype client at the same time?
Yes. If you are running GWConnect 1.03 or newer, you may sign in to both Skype and GWConnect with the same account on the same computer with no conflicts. If you are running older versions of GWConnect, however, you must sign in to separate accounts for each program to prevent a database I/O error. In either instance, no conflict will occur if you sign in to your account on multiple machines.
Take care, however, that you have no overlapping global hotkey definitions between both programs. Otherwise, whichever program loads first will receive access to the commands. For instance, if you have Skype and GWConnect set to pick up incoming calls with the Alt-Page Up hotkey, and you load Skype after GWConnect, then GWConnect will use the command because it was loaded first. Additionally, there may be unpredictable behavior if both programs attempt to access the same audio hardware simultaneously. If possible, use separate hotkeys and audio devices for each program to minimize any potential resource conflicts.
Will I be able to use third-party plugins (such as call recorders) with GWConnect?
No. Third-party plugins which utilize the Skype desktop API are currently not compatible with custom Skype clients-- including GWConnect. On the other hand, programs which create virtual audio devices for the sake of capturing audio such as Total Recorder from www.TotalRecorder.com have been reported to enable call recording in GWConnect.
Do others on my contact list have to also run GWConnect before I can call them?
No. Your contacts may use any Skype client which supports voice calls and/or text chatting such as GWConnect, the official Skype client for Windows, or even Skype for other operating systems such as Mac OSX, iOS, Android, and Linux. In the end, GWConnect is simply an accessible front-end to the same Skype service used by millions of people around the globe every day.
Why does GWConnect keep changing my preferred audio input device to my sound card's microphone?
If you have a sound card such as an SB Live Value or SB Audigy and use Windows XP, GWConnect will only be able to access the generic input driver exposed through Windows. As a consequence, you cannot directly configure the hardware input (microphone, line in, stereo mix, etc.) from within GWConnect's options window. If this happens, the Skype runtime will always select the microphone despite what you may have set in the Windows Volume Control. While Skype is aware of this issue, there is presently no way to disable this behavior. If possible, use a different sound card with GWConnect which exposes individual hardware inputs and outputs.
I sometimes receive a "Connect Error" message when I try to send a voicemail. What can I do?
This is a Skype Kit issue which is still under investigation. An update will be made available once Skype identifies and corrects the problem.

Version 2.12
7/19/2013 4:30:06 PM
- If the GW Micro servers were unreachable, GWConnect would revert to advertisement mode even if a user had paid for a subscription or was running a valid copy of Window-Eyes. This has been fixed.
- Some additional work to minimize connection drops has been added. Please continue to report any problems you encounter.
- The sounds in GWConnect 2.11 produced a small pop after they were played. This has been fixed.
- Other minor bugs have been corrected.
Version 2.11
6/26/2013 10:00:54 AM
- Some users were experiencing frequent connection drops to the Skype service. This problem should be greatly improved if not fully corrected. Please let us know if the issue persists after applying this update.
- Other minor bugs have been corrected.
Version 2.1
6/12/2013 11:19:37 AM
- The SkypeKit runtime has been updated to version 4.3.1.
- The initial startup time of GWConnect has been significantly decreased.
- The update process has been greatly streamlined. Future GWConnect releases will be able to be downloaded and installed directly from the program's "Check for Updates" option in the Help menu.
- Compatibility with Windows 8 has been improved.
- The Control-Shift-F10 hotkey has been added to allow you to review the ten most recently spoken messages.
- The format of final call durations is now reported more sanely; e.g. if a call lasted for only 5 minutes, you will see its duration as "05:00" instead of "00:05:00."
- There were some circumstances where some GWConnect windows were unfocusable if their positions were saved after they had been hidden. This has been fixed.
- If GWConnect detects a corrupted settings file, it will now automatically reset itself with no need of user intervention.
- Users of non-Latin languages reported errors resulting from text conversations. All such errors have been corrected.
- If you set your mood text to something which contained Arabic characters, the Skype Kit would sometimes throw an error. This has been fixed.
- In previous versions of GWConnect, the "Add" or "Edit" custom contact group dialogs would always display in English even if GWConnect was set to run in another language. This has been fixed.
- There were cases where GWConnect would occasionally not allow you to place a second call with someone with whom you previously spoke without first restarting the program. This has been fixed.
- The "drop from conference" menu item has been added to the right-click context menu in GWConnect's main window. In addition, it will only become enabled if a conference is active, the logged in user is its host, and the selected contact is a participant who can be dropped. While the underlying behavior of this feature has not changed, the user interface will more accurately reflect when participants can be dropped.
- There was an issue where users of Latin-based languages would sometimes have their default country codes set to Afghanistan. This has been fixed.
- The conversations window accessible from the Skype menu now displays conferences in addition to text chats in reverse-chronological order and also shows the date and time each was last updated.
- Pressing the spacebar on the Enable checkbox inside the hotkeys section of the Options dialog did not change the state of the checkbox. This has been fixed.
- If a conference was active, you called someone to add, but he/she denied the request, subsequent attempts to invite the person would sometimes fail. This has been fixed.
- The text chat window user interface has been expanded to include a list of all conversation participants, a context menu for performing predefined actions on the selected contact, and a button to allow you to leave a conference (when appropriate).
- When clicking the "Call" button inside a conversation window, GWConnect will now rejoin a live voice session if one is active. Note that this only works for conferences created by GWConnect or Skype 4 and newer.
- The "Send Files" button inside text chat windows will now remain active for conferences. Previously it was only possible to send files to one person at a time.
- Using the message review hotkeys F1 through F10 inside a text chat window sometimes resulted in incomplete feedback. This has been fixed.
- Attempting to manipulate a conversation window associated with a voice-only conference resulted in the inability to focus the text input area. This has been fixed.
- The title bars of conversation windows would not properly update if either a contact's status changed (in the case of one-on-one calls) or if someone joined or left a conference. This has been fixed.
- Some voicemail-related errors have been corrected.
- It is now possible to send files to multiple contacts simultaneously from within the main GWConnect window.
- If the "contact online" sound is defined, it will only play when a contact's availability changes from offline to online.
- An option to automatically switch GWConnect's input and output devices to USB headsets has been added to the Devices tab of the Options dialog.
- An option to specify whether rejected calls are sent to voicemail has been added to the General tab of the Options dialog. For this to have any noticeable effect, voicemail must already be enabled for the logged in user.
- When your status is set to "do not disturb," GWConnect will automatically reject any incoming calls, voice alerts will cease, and any sound playback will be suspended. Setting your availability to anything else will return GWConnect to its normal behavior.
- Instead of automatically retiring from conferences when the "Hang Up" command is invoked, GWConnect will merely leave any active live session. This permits the user to rejoin the conference later.
- If voicemail was active for the signed in account and GWConnect was set to reject a call after a specified period, the call was rejected but the incoming call window would sometimes remain displayed. This has been fixed.
- Instead of displaying a generic error message, launching a second copy of GWConnect will now reactivate any previously open copy.
- If GWConnect is running in sponsored mode, Alt-Shift-F10 (or the respective menu item in the Help menu) will open the most recently spoken advertiser's home page in the default web browser.
- A link to go to the GWConnect advertising page has been added to the Help menu.
- The welcome and file transfer dialogs have been made taller.
- Support for Bulgarian, Croatian, Egyptian Arabic, Polish, and Slovak languages has been added.
- Additional minor bugs have been corrected.
Version 2.0
7/9/2012 8:39:50 AM
The following major changes have been made to GWConnect since version 1.06. Please consult the GWConnect documentation (included with the download) for full details on all new features.
- GWConnect can now be made ad-free for non-Window-Eyes customers. Please visit http://www.gwmicro.com/catalog/gw_connect for details.
- GWConnect's startup time has been reduced.
- You can now rename contacts in GWConnect. Either choose the Rename item from the Contact/Context menus or hit F2. If the renamed text is blank, GWConnect will fall back to the contact's own display name or phone number (in the case of Skype Out contacts).
- A new privacy dialog has been added to the Skype menu. This will allow you to limit who can call you, send you IMs, etc.
- Also under the Skype menu is a voicemail options window. Here you can enable/disable whether voicemail is active for your account as well as record your own greeting. Note that it appears that for this feature to work, you have to explicitly enable the voicemail option from your Skype account on the web if you haven't already done so.
- Added SMS support. Note that the Skype Kit only supports sending SMS messages. There is presently no way to receive them. Additionally, you must have sufficient Skype Out credit or sending the message will fail.
- Added an "Answer" item to the Call menu so you can now use this directly from the main UI in addition to the dialog or global hotkeys.
- When a call begins, GWConnect will now tell you who's calling if you have enabled speech messages.
- Under the call menu is a "Hold/Resume Conversation" menu item. This will let you put the active call on hold locally and resume it. GWConnect will announce the new status of the conversation; e.g. "conversation on hold" or "conversation resumed."
- The Contact menu has a "View Mood Text" item for people who weren't able to see the full mood text column. All this does is open a message box with the mood text for easier review.
- Added Alt F1 through Alt F12 (excluding Alt F4) to switch to different preset contact views such as Skype Contacts, Skype Out Contacts, etc. The name of the new view is also announced.
- There is a new tab in the options window called "Startup & Shutdown." All choices related to GWConnect's startup, minimization, and shutdown behavior have been moved here.
- Added an option to the Startup & Shutdown tab to ask you whether you want to close GWConnect on exit. This is enabled by default.
- Added the option to have Alt-F4 minimize GWConnect rather than close it outright. This option is found in Options/Startup & Shutdown.
- Added an option to automatically answer incoming calls (under Options/General). When active, any incoming calls will be answered but only if you aren't already in a call with someone else. If you are, the caller is sent immediately to voicemail.
- In options/general is an edit box where you can instruct GWConnect to hang up if you don't answer an incoming call after X number of seconds (default is 30). Enter only whole numbers greater than 0. Note that this option will only do something if you have set this value to be greater than 0 and if you have enabled voicemail for your account.
- An option to speak timestamps for incoming and outgoing chat messages has been added to Options/Speech (default is unchecked). This setting is entirely independent of the "show timestamps" option for the message log.
- A new checkbox has been added to the speech tab to cause GWConnect to always say "alert" prior to any of its messages. This is disabled by default. Note that this only applies to program-generated events such as when contacts sign in, a message is received, etc. Anything you do which would normally cause speech (such as changing contact views, reading messages in text chat windows, etc. will not produce the extra "alert" text.
- The message log tab in the options dialog has been renamed to "History."
- Under the history tab of the options window is a new group of radio buttons which will let you choose how much text chat and recent event history should be retrieved. The default is to only retrieve activity from the last 30 days.
- Added a checkbox under the "Startup & Shutdown" tab of the options window to let you choose whether to run GWConnect when Windows starts. There is now no need to re-run the setup program or manually delete the GWConnect shortcut from the local user's startup group if you want to change this behavior after installing GWConnect.
- A setting has been added to Options/Files which will allow you to have GWConnect automatically close file transfer windows when they complete.
- You can now automatically accept incoming files when the respective checkbox is checked in the Files tab of the options window. When enabled, any existing file will be overwritten, and the incoming transfer will be accepted without any intervention.
- If you place or accept a call while one is already active, you are now asked if you want to put the original conversation on hold, hang up on the original, or try to merge the calls. If you choose to put the original on hold, it will automatically resume once the new conversation ends. This behavior is configurable under the options window.
- Added a "Call Back" button to the voicemail playback window. When clicked, it will stop the active voicemail (if one is playing) and place a call to the person who left the message.
- If you place a call to one or more contacts with phone numbers defined (either by you or in his/her profile), you are now asked which one you want to call.
- You can now assign office, mobile, and other phone numbers to contacts by choosing the "Assign Phone Numbers" item from either the Contact or context menus. Note that whereas you can assign three numbers to a regular Skype contact, you can only assign two for a Skype Out contact.
- Your Skype Out balance can be viewed via the respective option from the Skype menu.
- You can now view a contact's local time in the view profile window.
- The program now says and shows user display names for incoming calls. Before, GWConnect would show only the person's Skype name or telephone number.
- The names of call participants are spoken when calls begin.
- When editing your profile or assigning phone numbers to a contact, each respective entry is normalized before the change is committed to Skype.
- Text chats now include a status line which will allow you to see when members of the active conversation are typing. Similarly, a checkbox to options/speech has been added to let you choose whether GWConnect speaks something when someone in an open text chat types a message. In addition, GWConnect likewise will send the appropriate notifications to members of a chat when you type.
- Added Control-A, Z, X, C, and V hotkeys to select, undo, cut, copy, and paste text inside chat and SMS windows.
- Messages in text chat windows are now displayed a bit differently to make them easier to read visually.
- When inviting users to a text chat, you can now choose as many people as you like rather than only being able to add one person at a time.
- If you sent a message whose contents was a single emoticon, GWConnect would play the outbound message sound but failed to display it in the message log. This has been fixed.
- Adding users to an existing one-on-one conversation worked, but the title bar of the chat window would never update when adding someone to a conference. This has been fixed.
- If a conversation is put on hold remotely or if a participant puts you on hold locally, GWConnect will now speak and display a message saying as much. In addition, a short beep will play every ten seconds while the active call is held.
- GWConnect can now detect when the list of available audio devices changes; e.g. if you plug in a USB headset, GWConnect will re-initialize the audio devices and try to keep hold of your input/output preferences. There is still a known problem where the microphone on certain cards such as the Sound Blaster Audigy will become active regardless of your preference in the Windows Volume Control. This is a known Skype Kit limitation awaiting resolution.
- If you have more than one voice conversation active, you can now switch among them by using Control-Alt-F1 to go back or Control-Alt-F2 to go forward. Or, use the Previous/Next Conversation items under the call menu. GWConnect will speak and display the information about the new call which is activated.
- When a call ends, GWConnect will speak and display its final duration on the status line similar to native Skype. If you don't want this to happen, uncheck the respective checkbox in Options/General.
- GWConnect now keeps track of individual conversation durations as long as they're live. This means that if you switch among conversations, GWConnect will be able to keep up and display the correct duration on the status bar. Note that timing will cease whenever a live conversation is put on hold and start again when the call resumes.
- When adding Skype Out contacts, you can now optionally assign a display name to the newly added phone number.
- You can now send multiple files in a single file transfer request.
- In the view profile window, GWConnect now shows the person's birthday (if given) in the default locale's format. e.g. in the US, you will see something like 8/29/1984 or in the UK, 29/8/1984. We also show the person's age if his/her birthday is available.
- Under the Skype menu is a new item called "Change Language." This allows you to set GWConnect to run in any of its supported languages. If you decide to change the language, GWConnect will ask if you want to restart for the new change to become active.
- If you first ran GWConnect in one language, hotkey descriptions in the options window would always appear in that language even if a new translation later became available. This has been fixed.
- You can now send and receive contacts to people in your contact list or in text chats. Use the "Send Contacts" option from the Contact or context menu in the main window or by clicking the aptly named button in the chat window. Choose the contact(s) you want to send, and once done, the people at the other end will receive notifications allowing them to add the contact to their Skype buddy list, view his/her profile, or ignore the contact.
- Added a reset settings option to the Help menu. You will be asked whether you want to continue. If you answer yes, your settings will be deleted and GWConnect will restart as if for the first time.
- The system tray icon is always present so long as GWConnect runs.
- GWConnect now stores window positions in addition to sizes when you move or size them.
- If you moved or resized the main GWConnect window, the defaults would continue to be used on the next launch. This has been fixed.
- Shortened the message descriptions in the recent events window; e.g. instead of "message received from Blah," there is now just "message from Blah." Additionally, call durations are displayed when available.
- Sent/received messages in the recent events window now include their contents when applicable.
- Under the Call menu are two items for turning the speaker volume up and down. Additionally, you can use Control-Alt-F11 and Control-Alt-F12 to accomplish the same from within any other active program. A "speaker volume" slider has also been added to the devices tab of the options window. Note that until Skype provides a way to disable microphone AGC, GWConnect will be unable to adjust your microphone volume. Appropriate controls will be added once this becomes possible.
- Custom contact groups are now fully supported. You can add, edit, and switch to custom groups of your choice from under the "Custom Groups" item of the View menu.
- GWConnect will no longer receive keyboard focus if it is configured to run from the system tray on launch.
- Unicode (rather than ASCII) text is sent to your chosen screen reader. Text written in non-Latin languages will be spoken correctly, assuming the screen reader in question correctly supports Unicode.
- Control-Alt-End has been added as a global hotkey to Hold/Resume conversations.
- Added a hotkey to mute/unmute program-generated speech (Control-Alt-F3 by default).
- A global hotkey has been added to repeat the most recently spoken message. it is Control-Alt-F10 by default.
- Fixed the problem where the incoming authorization sound would play but no window would appear.
- GWConnect would not always speak or display messages whose contents were single links. This has been fixed.
- An option to repeat the caller ID of an incoming caller has been added to Options/Speech (enabled by default). When active, GWConnect will repeat the name of who is calling every five seconds.
- Added a hotkey to focus the most recently active chat within the active GWConnect session (Control-Alt-C by default).
- Choosing "Show Main Window" from the GWConnect system tray icon would sometimes do nothing. This has been fixed.
- When you tried to leave a voicemail for someone, GWConnect would sometimes hang up immediately when the voicemail window opened. This has been improved. Note that Skype are still investigating voicemail-related issues that some GWConnect users have reported. An updated runtime will be shipped with GWConnect when the issues have been corrected.
- A number of visual changes have been made which will not impact screen reader users.
- Fixed the issue where the settings file would sometimes become corrupted at program shutdown.
- Many minor bugs have been corrected thanks to error reports. Thank you!
Version 1.06
5/15/2012 8:49:53 AM
- When receiving file transfers whose names contained non-Latin characters, GWConnect would display the filename in a text chat rather than display the incoming file request window. This has been fixed.
- French support has been added.

- Worked around an issue where users of a specific screen reader were unable to read by word inside text conversation windows.
- When focus is in the incoming call window, the Escape key may also be used to reject the call.
- Fixed a problem where mood text would sometimes carry across multiple accounts. Mood text is now always retrieved from the logged in account and is no longer cached.
- Corrected a rare issue where GWConnect believed a selected contact was still in a call even though the call had ended and thus, a restart was required to place future calls to the contact.

Version 1.03
2/14/2012 4:38:23 PM
- GWConnect no longer becomes confused if the signed in account has a mixture of upper and lowercase characters.
- Fixed an issue where conversations sometimes would not merge. If merging fails, the user will be informed and the merge will abort. Additionally, any non-live conversations will be automatically disconnected to ensure that only one live conversation is active at a time.

- Including an updated Skype runtime which improves stability and corrects a few memory leaks.
- Some users reported seeing multiple GWConnect icons in the notification area. This should no longer be an issue.
- When it first starts, GWConnect will stop running if it detects another instance of itself already in memory.
- The user availability displayed in the title bar could sometimes be incorrect. This has been corrected.
- Additional checks were added to ensure that the "Drop from Conference" item only becomes active when a user is determined to be the conference's host.
- The contact list now updates when a user's mood text changes.
- When sending and receiving files, the name of the file being transferred may now be reviewed in a read-only edit box.
- if a file transfer was active and another one began, it was only possible to Alt-Tab to the most recently active transfer. Now all windows are accessible via Alt-Tab.
- File transfers would sometimes hang for non-English users. This has been fixed.

- Recent versions of modern screen readers are now properly detected and used where possible.
- Fixed an issue where sound effects would play through the call out device instead of the notification device.
- Worked around a problem where conversation windows would sometimes not open if a contact's status could not be determined.
- Sending and receiving files with non-Latin characters should work now.
- Fixed an issue where certain events, such as contact online status changes, would cause the ringing sound to stop playing if an incoming call request was visible.
- It is once again possible to send files from within text chat windows.
- The hang up command (accessed either from within the GWConnect main window or via the global hotkey) now also activates the "Stop and Send" button in an open voicemail window.
- When making outbound Skype calls, the ringing sound now plays when the remote participants' status changes to ringing instead of when the call is first initiated.
- The outgoing ringing sound now stops playing if a Skype call is automatically forwarded to a landline or mobile phone.
- Fixed a rare case where GWSkype wouldn't always hang up successfully on any active conversations while the program was shutting down.
- If a call is placed to someone who has enabled voicemail on his/her account, the voicemail dialog will now open if the call is not answered. Previously it would only open if a voicemail was initiated from the contact list.
- Like recent events, the list of incoming voicemails from the Skype menu is now sorted in descending order; that is, the most recent messages will be at the top and the oldest at the bottom.
- Fixed a problem where GWConnect wouldn't display the incoming call dialog if a previous call failed to answer in time.
- If GWConnect runs with advertisements, the ad text has been varied to be much less repetitive.
- GWConnect would sometimes play an alert sound but failed to show an associated incoming authorization dialog. This has been fixed.
- If placing a call from inside a chat window brought the user to voicemail, GWConnect still thought a call was active. This has been corrected.
- Merging conference calls has been improved.
- When rejecting incoming calls, GWConnect now sends the caller to voicemail if the logged in account supports this feature.
- When a conference call was created, the mute/unmute microphone menu item would sometimes remain disabled. This has been improved.
- Silencing incoming or outgoing chat messages spoken by SAPI synthesizers now works correctly.
- Chat windows opened via the Conversations dialog from under the Skype menu no longer open minimized.
- The status change time-out has been increased from 10 seconds to one minute. Accounts with large contact lists should load much more quietly.
- Preferences are now automatically saved when clicking OK in the Options dialog and whenever the user signs in to Skype.
