  • Added support for the chat history when the Skype keyboard accessibility option is enabled. If the chat history isn't reading reliably with that accessibility feature turned off, try turning it on.
  • Added more bulletproofing to account for Skype's somewhat lackadaisical support for MSAA.

  • Now attempt to do more if the wineyes.exe changes, and causes Skype to prompt to trust the new copy of the executable
  • If the script can't connect to the Skype object, it now says so instead of going away silently
  • Added bulletproofing for the Tools, Options, Advanced trusted apps list. Added more bulletproofing for the chat history window
  • Fixed a problem where parsing the seconds of the call duration would be significantly incorrect

Release Notes for version 2.5 - 9/25/08

  • Fixed all known error reports. Thanks to everyone who sent them in. Keep the feedback coming.

Release Notes for version 2.4 - 9/24/08

Much has changed between version 2.3 and 2.4 of the Skype script, including:
  • Beefed up support for the GW Toolkit's shared objects
  • The Skype script now attempts to handle the majority of MSAA focus events itself. The benefit of this approach means that the script gets to determine what information gets spoken instead of Window-Eyes. In the past, when versions of Skype changed, a new version of Window-Eyes was required to speak MSAA information correctly. Now, if MSAA information changes, the script can be updated instead of waiting on Window-Eyes to be updated. This underscores, I believe, the awesome power of Window-Eyes scripting. Because of this new approach, there may still be some sections that don't read correctly, that double read, of do something else unexpected. If you noticed these anomalies, please let me know.
  • The chat history should now be accessible using the up and down arrows.
  • In the initial Skype dialog, before you sign in, where you enter your username and password, there are a couple of check boxes that Window-Eyes would always read checked or unchecked regardless of the state of the check box. These should now read correctly.
  • Under Tools, Options, Advanced, where you can get a list of trusted applications, the application list would not read. It does now.
  • A new hotkey (Control-Shift-Windows-5) has been added to display a history of Skype events.
  • Under the Help and Options dialog, there is a new option that lets you control whether you hear only the display name while in the contacts list, or whether you hear both the display name and the username. The status (online, offline, etc.) is always read.

Release Notes for version 2.3 - 7/03/08

  • Fixed a problem where a message box would continually pop up with the skype member's name during a chat.

Release Notes for version 2.2 - 7/03/08

  • Fixed a problem where the interruptability setting status wasn't being displayed correctly in the options dialog.

Release Notes for version 2.1 - 7/02/08

  • Added a new hotkey (Control-Shift-Windows-4, by default, although customizable) to speak the last status message (i.e. online, offline, away, etc.)
  • The Help and Options dialog now includes a check box to control whether or not message announcements should interrupt speech. There's also a help button which opens the standard help and options dialog, where you can read help, manage hotkeys, etc.
  • Added another new hotkey (Control-H -- currently not customizable) that's only available when you're in a chat window. When you press this hotkey, you will get a dialog containing the entire chat history.

Release Notes for version 2.0 - 6/27/08

  • The key describer is now honored.

Release Notes for version 1.9 - 6/27/08

  • Fixed a problem where you couldn't set the update method in the help and options dialog.

  • Fixed some shutdown timing issues
  • Version numbers should be back in sync with this version

Release Notes for version 1.4 - 5/9/08

  • Fixed a bug where the script help wouldn't launch.

Release Notes for version 1.3 - 5/8/08

  • Updated to work with the latest private build, and the latest GW Toolkit.

Release Notes for version 1.2 - 4/10/08

  • Fixed double-reading of incoming messages
  • Call durations are now announced in hours (if hours exist), minutes, and seconds
  • Control-T now reads the current call duration
  • Control-Q now re-reads the status of the current call
  • NOTE: The current hot keys are re-definable for the current session, but will not be saved. This will be resolved in the next version. For now, the default hot keys are:
    1. Speak Last Message Spoken - Control-Shift-Windows-1
    2. Speak Active Chats - Control-Shift-Windows-2
    3. Speak Current Call Duration - Control-T
    4. Speak Current Call Status - Control-Q

I especially like the dialogue box in this script that makes it so easy to manage voicemails etc received on Skype.

I have some new concerns. As you know, Skype5.X is now the current version. Do these scriptswork at all for Skyp5? Also, Skyp 5 has a totally different interface. The way these scripts were designed, I have a feeling that they no longer work. I haven't had time myself to test these scripts out with Skype5, but don't know if they will work on anything higher than Skype4.2. Whatever happened to those Skype Script Updates that you were going to do Jeff when time allowed when you had some apparent Vacation? I commend you in all respects, this Script is wonderful. But the point is Doug Lee is miles ahead of you. As I once mentione, action messages where the person types a forward slash, then by the word me a space than the message is read only using other products suchas Doug's scripts and such. Also, he recently did do what I've been expressing a suggestion here for a while now about announcing something about text being selected when control-A is used in chat edit boxes. And as GW Micro continues to update Window-Eyes, might not the issue of Interoperability come to the tabletop on the functionality of these scripts? Just a thought. If you or anyone else would like to respond personally by email, please do so at keithint1234@gmail.com Please address any such subjects as Skyp Script Comments. Thanks for what you've done thus far, and I hope that script development continues. Sincerely, --Keith, Window-Eyes user.

Hello Jeff. Great script for Skype, but there is something I'd like to see if it's possible to get working in the latest release of Skype 4.2.whatever version that is. The first thing, is that while in the main Skype edit box, it would be nice if Window-Eyes could at least let you know that when hitting control-A, that the text was highlighted. Window-Eyes seems to remain silent in that box. The second item, is that your scripts only read standard chat messages, in the form of "Jef says, Hi Keith!" Now, if you were to type: /me is happy, and your name was Jef on Skype, then that will show up as: "Jef is happy!" However, JFW is the only thing with Doug Lees scripts, and Serotek System Access, that parses this action message thing. Is there any way possible, that you're scripts could parss that information if a /me text was entered? I'd like to be able to get some feedback such as is whatever. That But it should be able to read the name of who wrote it, and whatever they entered. Your scripts don't do that, and nor does the SKype talking product. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I'm happy to say, on my Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit machine, that skype 4.2 beta works with window-eyes 7.11 very well, and quite proud about that new fecility, where you can press a hot key, and see your history for everything, in a nice easy to use dialog. Great job with this one!

I love it. Having Contact and History lists announced is very helpful. Text chat facilities make a huge difference to that part of Skype. It can occasionally get a bit confused if one jumps around messages.

Somewhere around Line 215, in the ShowStandardHelp routine, a line something like this would be helpful: stdHelpDlg.UpdateURL = myScriptUpdateURL I never have scripts set to check for updates automatically, so I do appreciate the manual "Check for update" button provided in the Help dialog. Btw, great job!

I really appreciate the added functionality these scripts give to Skype. GW Micro's promptness in responding to user feedback on the list and updating the scripts accordingly is excellent. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

The version of Skype I am currently running is 3.8. I have now added wineyes.exe as a program allowed to use Skype. Please feel free to refer to my article at http://blog.blindaccessjournal.com/2008/06/accessible-way-to-manage-permission-of.html for instructions. Unfortunately, in Window-Eyes 7.0 Public Beta 1, the portion of the Options dialogue used to add/remove programs permitted to use Skype is, itself, inaccessible. It will be necessary to utilize the mouse cursor and left click in order to successfully select wineyes.exe. Completion of this procedure enables the functionality of these scripts, which now work quite nicely. I am improving the rating to 4 out of 5. Ironically, even after enabling these scripts, that manage dialogue remains inaccessible. :-( Thanks, Aaron, for another great script!

I just tried these scripts, and have a number of unfortunate observations at this time: 1. Control-Shift-Windows hotkeys are cumbersome at best. 2. Script actually caused Window-Eyes to go temporarily silent when playing with hotkeys. 3. Several errors have been shown while the script has been running. I'll try to include them specifically in subsequent comments. 4. The JAWS scripts at http://dlee.org/skype provide a great deal of hotkeys for selecting tabs and other Skype UI items; I hope we will see those enhancements in later versions of this script. No offense intended at all; just my $0.02 worth on this one. Thanks.
