RodWinamp and RodClock can be installed separately, but they are bundled together here for those who want both.
Both app descriptions are here to help you decide if you want both apps, or just one.
Welcom to RodWinamp!
RodWinamp is the realization of my dream to navigate media tracks and playlists in
Winamp with as much power and comfort as everyone deserves, especially those of us
with vision challenges!
Here is the list of RodWinamp’s features:
The app uses 5 hot keys to accomplish all Winamp navigation, as well as the save
and retrieval of bookmarks on disk; this makes it ideal for use with a remote control!
You can seek forward and backward in a track by five percent at a time; if a track
ends before you are finished using it, you can easily play the file again, and wrap
around to 95 percent of the track length,to catch those last few moments!
A single key press saves the current track position, and immediately retrieves the
next or previous bookmark!
If your media collection is organized into a folder tree, you can set the folder
level you wish, and navigate to the position in the playlist where the tracks at
that folder level are listed; this means you can navigate by artist or album, taking
full advantage of the structure of your media collection!
With RodWinamp, the convenience of using multiple playlists is even easier, because
you don’t have to load playlists manually; RodWinampClassCreator, an app installed
with RodWinamp, lets you easily create additional classes (copies) of Winamp, which
work just like the default Winamp, and they enjoy the same set of features; and RodWinamp
lets you switch between them whenever you want!
RodWinamp’s final convenience is its Auto-save Bookmarks feature, which, if enabled,
saves bookmarks to your disk every 15 minutes; however, you also have the option
of saving and retrieving your bookmarks manually, which gives you more control over
what gets saved, especially if your bookmarks change frequently!
Welcom to RodClock!
What’s so special about this clock?
The first thing you will notice about this clock is that it speaks the time in a
more human-sounding way:
rather than “twelve-fifteen,” RodClock says “quarter after twelve,”;
rather than “twelve-thirty,” it says “half past twelve”;
And rather than “twelve-forty-five,” RodClock says “quarter to one.”;
it goes on to speak the day of the week, repeats the time, and repeats the whole
process 55 seconds later, just in case you missed it the first time;
I also decided to do away with A.M. and P.M.
I have never seen a talking clock deliver the time in such a helpful way before,
and so I decided to design one.
Choosing the time announcement device
When you first install RodClock, it will use Window-Eyes to announce the time.
Using Window-Eyes is not the best way to announce the time because your typing will
interrupt the cloc.
If you have the Winamp media player installed, you can create a second copy of Winamp
to announce the time.
This is because the time announcement messages are stored in audio files which are
played by Winamp at the appropriate time.
RodWinampClassCreator, which is installed with RodClock, makes it easy to create
additional copies of Winamp.
What’s so great about using Winamp as the time announcement device?
To begin with, here’s alittle about the nuts and bolts of Winamp.
First, if you have more than one copy of Winamp set up on your system, each one is
completely separate from every other.
Second, each copy of Winamp can be configured to use any audio device on your system,
whether or not that audio device is being used by other programs or other copies
of Winamp.
This means that if you create a copy of Winamp to announce the time, you are free
to use the same audio device which Window-Eyes uses, or a different one.
Most important of all, because every copy of Winamp has its own volume control, the
clock volume can be adjusted independently of your other programs.
In my experience, one of the biggest hassles blind people have using Windows is the
lack of control they have over the volume of individual programms.
This app solves this problem.
