4/1/2009 6:02:35 PMThis release contains the following updates:
  • Almost all controls, including tables, now support the FieldData, FieldName,
  • and SpeakSummary hotkeys.
  • Bug was fixed to correct speaking of index for radio buttons such as 2 of 3.
  • Group label information for radio buttons is now made available and is spoken.
  • Multiselectable state for lists and combo boxes is now spoken if true.
  • The sequence of what is spoken for some controls was modified to bring them
  • more into alignment with standard Window-eyes speech.
  • In addition to speaking shortcut keys for menu items, shortcuts are now spoken
  • for buttons and check boxes. Shortcut keys for other controls will be added later.
  • Pressing the route mouse to focused hotkey while in a java table will
  • now move the mouse pointer to the currently selected row.
  • By far the biggest change in this release is that all speech management
logic has been shifted from the java code base to the hosted script. The java code monitors the events and data for the application and fires callback functions in the hosted script passing back an instance of a class named ObjectInfo which contains the properties and methods to evaluate the object. Documentation of the ObjectInfo class (its properties and methods) is provided in the Documentation submenu of the WE4Java program group. NOTE: This release contains some logic for evaluating link controls; however, this effort is not functional as yet.

2/24/2009 3:55:49 PMThis release contains the following updates:
  • The WE4Java.vbs script has been updated to include the StandardHelp
  • logic in order to enable the Help/Controls button in Script Manager.
  • The shell objects used to execute the setup.exe and the install java
  • utility have been updated from wscript.shell to shell.application. Hopefully, this will avoid the 740 error reported by some vista users.
  • The Install WE4Java to a Java Environment utility has been updated to
  • include a new button called Validate Install (alt v). This option will check a java environment to make sure all the required wE4Java files are present and will then prompt the user to ask if a small test program should be run. If yes is selected, the test java class is executed. Whether the test class is successful or not, the console output of the test run is placed into a popup edit window and is also automatically copied to the clipboard. In this way, a user can paste the results into an e-mail to be sent for trouble shooting (e.g. to Jay Macarty).
  • The WE4Java java code now includes the ability to read popup message
dialogs created by the JOptionPane object. The Swingset2 demo contains a sample tab for JOptionPane showing 5 different types of dialogs; input, warning, message, component, and confirmation. The dialogs also contain a mixture of regular text and html formatted messages. Testing thus far, indicates all dialog types can be read. NOTE: The dialog title bar is not always being spoken correctly. This is being researched.

2/16/2009 1:55:53 AMThis update contains a single change to the WE4Java.vbs hosted script. The script now monitors StateChange events on the SharedObjects object in order to insure that the GWToolkit objects needed are available during script checking and setup.exe launching.

Version 0.9.12

2/15/2009 3:02:27 PMThis release contains the following updates:
  • Reworked the install package to be bundled as a Window-Eyes wepm
  • package file. The main hosted script, wE4Java.vbs, has been extensively updated to set ClientInformation properties, automatically check for new versions on script Central, and automatically execute the setup program when a new package is downloaded.
  • The Install Java utility has been extensively updated. The prompt to
  • install to a default java environment if found is stil the first thing. However, the next screen is a main screen with a List View of the java environments where WE4Java has been installed. The list shows the version, date/time, and directory for each installation. There are also 3 buttons across the top; Browse Folders, Update WE4Java, and Reset to JAB. To update a directory to the latest WE4Java, just arrow to it and press enter (the Update WE4Java is the default button). If you want to reset an environment which was previously using the Java access Bridge, simply arrow to the directory and press alt j which activates the Reset to JAB button. To return a directory back to WE4Java, simply arrow to it and hit enter again. The first column in the List View indicates if the environment is set to WE4Java or JAB. NOTE: If your java directory did not previously contain the Java access Bridge, pressing the Reset to JAB button will not install it there. You will get an error screen that indicates that the JAB components were not found.
  • Much of the Window-Eyes specific logic has been moved back into the hosted
  • script file, WE4Java.vbs.
  • A bug was fixed wherein using the right arrow key in an edit field
said the word "text" if the end of the data was reached. Now, a brief sound is played and the words " no more text " are spoken.

Version 0.9.11

2/11/2009 8:43:53 AMThis release contains the following updates:
  • Fixed issue where java menu selections were not being spoken in java 6.
  • Fixed issue where punctuation was being spoken when using left or right arrow
  • keys to move among screen controls.
  • Added new version checking logic to compare the version of the most recently
installed WE4Java package with that of the java code base in any given java runtime environment. When a java application is started, the version number contained within the jar file of the WE4Java java code will be compared with the WE4Java.xml version number. If the xml version is greater, the user will be notified, via a popup dialog, that their java application is not using the most recently available WE4Java code. The user is given the option to launch the Java Installer utility to update the java environment of the current application. The user can then stop and restart the application to pick up the most recent WE4Java code.

I really wish this was still in development. Only issue i had is self voicing apps. It would throw a fit, but that was fixed with a click of ok. Thing is it helped me a lot on web pages and stuff.

I am being told I have an out-dated version; but when I answer "yes" to running the installer, it never updates.
