Introduction
IE Max seeks to maximize the functionality of Internet Explorer for a Window-Eyes user, exploiting features from both the IE object model and the WE browse mode. The script is intended to make clipping, combining, and saving parts of web pages as convenient as possible.
----------
Operation
As usual, Control-C copies selected text to the clipboard. If no text is selected, IE Max copies the current line. Alt-C works similarly except that it appends to rather than replaces clipboard text. If text was already on the clipboard, a line break is inserted before the appended text.
An alternative way of selecting text uses F8 to mark the start of a selection. Navigate to the end point by whatever means -- arrow keys, find command, etc. -- without having to hold down the Shift key. Press Shift-F8 to select text from the start position. (These keys use the Window-Eyes drag and drop feature.)
In addition to the mouse find hotkeys, IE Max assigns Control-F for the Find dialog in Browse Mode. F3 finds again in a forward direction, and Shift-F3 finds again backward.
Control-G goes to a percentage point in the document, and Alt-G repeats the command with the value you previously input (e.g., 50 to go to the midpoint of the document).
IE Max modifies the focus position hotkey to say the line, column, and percent position of the cursor in the document. The Yield Text command, Alt-Y, says the number of characters, words, and lines contained in either all or selected text.
Control-L adds the url of the current page to a list of favorites managed by IE Max. Alt-Shift-L clears it from that list. Alt-L lists the favorites, from which you may pick one to open.
As usual, F1 opens help for IE. Alt-F1 invokes its about box -- a shortcut for checking the version. Alt-Shift-H opens this help guide as a web page.
Besides the quick navigation keys available in browse mode, IE Max defines Alt-F3 to search forward for another match of the current word or selected text. Alt-Shift-F3 searches backward.
Control-S saves the text of the current page to a file on disk, including its url at the top -- thereby recording the source of information. Control-Shift-S appends to the same file as before. Several hotkeys say a block of text related to the current page. The block is captured so that it may easily be transferred either to the clipboard or a file on disk. Alt-P says the page url in the address bar. Alt-N says the name of the page, which is like the window title without "Microsoft Internet Explorer" at the end. Alt-B says the body text of the page (HTML code of a page is divided into header and body sections). Alt-U says the url reference at the current link, which indicates where IE would go if that link were clicked. Control-U says the body of the url reference, which may be used to preview another page before opening it. Control-R says the rest of the text from the cursor position to the end of the browse buffer. Alt-Q queries all links of the page, saying the text and url of each link. You may also use Alt-I to input a block manually via an edit box.
The block of text captured by any of these commands may be used again in different ways. Repeating the same hotkey without intervening keys copies the block to the clipboard. Control-Shift-C may also be used for this. Alt-Shift-C appends the block to the clipboard rather than replacing it. Alt-Shift-F appends to a file instead. If a target file has already been specified in the current IEMax session, the same one is used. Alt-Shift-V voices the block again.
The Quote Clipboard command, Alt-Apostrophe, says the content of the clipboard. Alt-Shift-Apostrophe clears it. Control-Apostrophe saves the clipboard to a file, and Control-Shift-Apostrophe appends to it. In general, IE Max generates a unique file name as a default when prompting for a save target, and then re-uses it when appending.
The Begin Content command, Alt-Shift-B, tries to skip navigation links and go to the main content of the page. It searches for a "skip navigation" type of link, and activates it if found. Similarly, Alt-Shift-P searches for a printer-friendly version of the page, and activates it if found.
